“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” (Job 38:4-7 ESV)

Anthropomorphism is the act of giving God human attributes, feelings, and desires. Job had questioned God and God’s purpose, as well as the purpose of Job’s trials. Job never sinned or blasphemed God, but God put Job in his place in chapter 38. God knew the end before the beginning. God has accounted for every microscopic detail of every nano-second in everyone's life.

Given that this was no extraordinary feat for God, how is it we question what God does and how he does it? There are those who say God does not allow for sickness, “I would not make my children sick to teach them a lesson.” Another I have heard is, “I would not send my worst enemy to a place like hell; how could a good God do that?” This is anthropomorphism. Thinking God is like us and making, in our mind, a God that is like us.

I have heard it said, and I believe it, that Sunday is the biggest day of idolatry in the week. This is said because there are many people who create a God that is like them and then worship a God that is not the biblical living God.

God corrected Job, and Job repented, realizing that he had overstepped his bounds with God. Most people are not like that and will argue against a biblical God. God is not like us, and scripture tells us that in Psalm 50:21, “These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.”

God is not like us, and it is foolish to think He is. The problem is that many pastors do not preach a biblical God. They do not preach a biblical God because they themselves do not know the biblical God. All the people who follow these pastors will wind up in hell, thinking these preachers were good men.

In order to please God and live a holy life, we must know the God of the Bible. To know Yahweh, you must read the Bible. In order to understand what you read, you must have a preacher who knows this God and preaches, in exposition, teaching the word of God in his sermons.

Faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to be saved from your sin. To walk with Him, you must understand the Bible. If all this sounds strange, find a church whose pastor preaches Christ and Him crucified. Then, sit down with this pastor and educate yourself.

Seek Christ; you must know Him to reach the Father; you must know Him to be saved.

Grace and Peace.
