Where is it?

“You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” (Deuteronomy 8:18 ESV)

My family gets so frustrated with me because I forget everything. I have notes for notes. Part of the problem is my mind is always going 100 miles an hour; the other reason is I am getting old.

In this world, it is really pretty funny. We keep landline phones so we can call and find them if we lose our cell phones. We must have a cell phone to have the app to find our keys or our car when we cannot remember where we put them.

Losing keys and phones is one thing, but this gets worse when we start losing people. So, to help us with this problem, we are led back to our phones, where we have apps to find our kids or spouses when we lose them. We cannot afford to lose track of God, and we can; how you may ask.

I have a family and a job; I am in school; I have a house I am building and a house I am remodeling. I play golf, am part of a ministry, and am working on a second book, and I cannot remember what I had for breakfast. I could quickly lose God.

In the hustle and bustle of life, it is very easy to forget the one thing that provides everything in our lives: God. As Moses wrote in Deuteronomy, God gives us our skills so we can have a job; He provides our food in the very creation around us; he provides the words of scripture we study. God enters our hearts so that we desire to serve in many ways that bring others closer to God.

Lord, Please Forgive Us

When we forget God, as bad as that sounds, it is most certainly a sin. It is like saying a prayer over your food so that you can eat but just saying words without meaning them. At a family gathering, a member told my wife that my prayers before meals are always too long. Really? You are in such a hurry to eat that the one and a half minutes I give thanks to the Lord for the food you are about to eat that He provided is too long? My friends, no prayer is too long as long as it is not spoken for show and is truly said in worship and devotion to the Lord our God. Moses also wrote, “Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children.” (Deuteronomy 4:9 ESV). In other words, don’t forget God.

Look At That View

We are blessed to be on this side of the cross. We can see where the church of Christ has grown and what the death of Jesus has brought about. Those on the other side of the cross, the other side of the ascension, really had no idea what the sacrifice of Christ would bring. We can sit and read all the scriptures in I don’t know how many translations. We even have cell phone apps with Bibles, so you have no excuse to forget God. Yes, back to the cell phone.

Many profess to be Christians, but they only think about Jesus when they are sitting in front of a Pastor. Even then, some think about how much longer he will go on, whether the football game is on, or they make a grocery list. Sitting in church without thinking about God is very sad and would cause me to ask if I was really a Christian at all.

Make Christ the center of your life. Go to sleep with Him, wake up with Him, eat with Him, drive with Him, and pray with Him. If I missed something, do that with Him too. Living a Christ-centered life puts your heart and life in line with God. It makes you happy every day, no matter how bad the day is going. It makes your love more profound and longer, all the while desiring to share the love you get from Christ. How much love is that? He died for you; that’s how much. Forget your keys, your wallet, or your car, but please don’t forget about God. He has never forgotten about you for one fraction of one-half of one-quarter of a millisecond.
