“However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him— (1 Corinthians 2:9 ESV)
In eternity past, the Godhead decided to share their overabundance of love. Then there was light, and creation followed. God created everything we see. Look around you at God's abundant grace and power.
We see it, touch it, smell it, and taste it. The power of God surrounds us. John said it best: “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3). God spoke it, Jesus created it, and humans saw it.
Humans saw it, and it corrupted humankind. We live in a throwaway society. Nothing is built to last, and nothing is meant to last. Humanity is consumed with all the “things” it wants. Worse, once we obtain them, we quickly tire of them and begin thinking about the next “best” thing we want. I do not want to live that way, do you?
In writing to the church in Corinth, Paul tells them and us that God has something already prepared for us. In the upper room, Jesus said to the apostles, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” We, who are in Christ, are like one arriving at their surprise birthday party with a table of wrapped gifts waiting for discovery.
God has prepared for us that which no human eye has seen. While we may have heard the most talented musicians, God has what no human has ever heard, and we will stand in a place before God that no human mind has ever conceived. These eternal, unending gifts await those who love God and have placed their faith in Christ Jesus as their Savior.
Paul reminds us of the unshakable assurances of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He reminds us that here in this world, controlled by the prince of the power of the air, we will see the tragedy and horrific sights of humanity. However, we have been saved by God, and for God, saved so that upon receiving our eternal bodies, we will experience what we could never see on earth, the glory of God in heaven. The overwhelmingly beautiful treasure we have longed to see is our Savior, Christ the Lord. Nothing else will be desired, nothing else will distract, and nothing else will detract from God's glory. We will worship for eternity, compelled in love and devotion to God, that all we desire is to glorify Him who created us.
Is this what you seek? Is this what you desire, long for, and thirst for? Do you know the treasure that is Jesus Christ, your creator, the one who loved despite your sins and rebellion? Beaten, bloodied, and besmirched, He willingly died for you before you were ever created. Only to call you back to Him in love. If you seek the world's treasures, know all these things will crumble and disappear into dust. Seek Christ. Seek Him as your Savior. Repent your sins with a change of heart and mind, turning to Christ. He is a great, satisfying treasure necessary to achieve a peace that transcends all things.
Seek the Lord while you can; one day, His hand will be withdrawn.
Grace and Peace.
