All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for

correction, and for training in righteousness" (Paul-2 Timothy 3:16 ESV)

Yesterday I took part in a discussion of scripture. Is it inerrant? Yes, scripture is inerrant, infallible, and reliable. Paul tells us that scripture is breathed out by God and is done so in such a way that it is truthful.

It is interesting to hear the arguments against this belief. Most arguments center around a human need to justify acts God condemns in scripture. This discussion was centered around the teaching of scripture by a woman to men. Scripture is relatively straightforward, and despite its clarity, there were arguments, “That’s not what Paul meant.” I am sorry, but inclusion, equality, and accessibility are not reasons to rewrite or reinterpret scripture. Just because it doesn’t fit today’s agenda, it must be wrong, or you’re not reading it right.

Let’s examine this. First, we must understand that God inspired the writing of Paul. His epistle to Timothy reminded Timothy to remain bound to scripture as it is God’s spoken word. While many human authors are open to mistakes, the authors of the Bible are carried in the Spirit of God, who is omniscient. The Spirit of God never errs.

Jesus, who is God, quoted scripture throughout the New Testament. Jesus expresses the truths of scripture when he teaches and believes in the covenants of God. It is through Jesus that the inscripurated word is proven entirely truthful.

Another area of contested scriptures is the area of natural miracles. A good friend asked me if I believed God kept the sun in place so Joshua would win a battle. He was bewildered that I thought that act was possible. In disbelief at my response. He began to respond, quoting physics, metaphysics, and astrophysics. “It is impossible,” he said; the sun would fry the Earth. My response was, did not God create everything, Ex Nihilo? If God could create from nothing, walk this Earth as God and Man, willingly die, and then, by his own power, take His life back up again, could He not stop the Earth and maintain the natural gravity, temperature, and time of day? Could he not then again start the Earth’s rotation on its axis? Could not the God who said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the Earth.” And it was so.” Could not the God of all creation do as he pleases? Yes, He could, and Yes, He did.

Why, Why is it so hard to think that God can do as He pleases? After all, He is God. Is your belief so tiny that it must be a “story” because man says it can’t happen that way? It is a story, but truthful storytelling, the exploits of an ever-faithful God keeping his covenant with His people. Believe, just like the Gospel of Christ is true, the words of the Bible are true, every blessed last one of them. Believe.

May the mercies and blessings of the Messiah be with you.
