The Happiness of a Child

If I asked the average person on the street are you happy in your life what do you think the answer would be? High taxes, food prices at an all-time high, gas prices draining money from your pockets, the government and society imposing outrageous immoral behavior, almost requiring its acceptance, the slow erasing of personal freedoms, and the beginnings of the persecution of Christians in the United States. How can one be happy in such turmoil?

The Answer

Christ is the answer. If you know Him then you know when you completely give yourself over to Him, He changes you. And when you change, nothing else should matter to you. Christ becomes the center of your life. He is an all-lovely obsession, and what an obsession. When you are changed all you want to do is worship Him. But it is not a one-way street. Christ blesses us with His love and mercy, the Holy Spirit edifies us, so we understand more and more, and the Father provides all things.

You cannot live “your best life now”. If anyone tells you Christ died to allow you to live your best life now they are a liar and a wolf in sheep’s clothing. You cannot live your best life now. Christ did not die so you could drive an Audi. However, we can live a blessed life when we focus on Christ. Living a Christ-centered life is the only way to avoid the contamination of the world. When we acknowledge we are sinners and pray in repentance we are blessed. We have assurances of forgiveness.

Charles Hadden Spurgeon - Assurances

On October 2 1864 Charles Spurgeon preached of assurances. Spurgeon said, “many sincerely seeking souls are in great trouble because they have not yet attained to an assurance of their interest in Christ Jesus: they dare not take any comfort from their faith because they suppose that' it has not attained to a sufficient strength. They have believed in the Lord Jesus, and they have his promise that they shall be saved, but they are not content with this—they want to get assurance, and then they suppose they shall have a better evidence of their salvation than the bare word of the Saviour. Such persons are under a great mistake; but as that mistake is a very painful one, and exercises the most injurious influence upon them.” When we are saved, meaning we have accepted Christ as our savior, asked him to be the head of our life, repented our sins, and strive for a Christ-like life in His service, we need to do nothing more to receive the assurances of everlasting life. With this belief in our hearts, the worries of the world melt away. We should understand that God provides always. He provides what we need, not necessarily what we want because he knows what is needed. We sometimes get hung up on this point because we wind up wanting something that is not necessarily needed. We covet or desire things for the wrong reasons. This is me: Wow so and so got a new truck; I want a new truck. But there is nothing wrong with your truck. I know, but I WANT one. This is the world, and we must let it go. The only thing we need is Christ, and we need Him desperately.

How to be content in life

People ask me, how can you be so happy? How can you not worry? The answer is the Gospel. In Luke 12:25-27 ESV, Jesus tells us, “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” When we have Christ as our savior, and understand our assurance, we have no worries. Yes, I get it we worry about the world we live in, we worry for our children, and we worry for our safety. Needless worries. Teach your children about Christ, about his sacrifice, about assurances. They are the future church. Teach them about faith and what Christ achieved on the cross. Christ said, and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3 ESV. Turn, be a child of God. Trust your Father in heaven, Trust your Lord Jesus Christ, and ask for help from the Holy Spirit. Peace reigns through Christ Jesus.

If you do not know Jesus and want to open your heart to Him do it now. If you know He is the Son of God tell him you know. You must believe He is the Son of God, who came to earth fully man and fully God sacrificing Himself for your sins. That He died and rose again on the third day in a bodily resurrection. He ascended into heaven where He reigns over creation and is the only mediator between God and humankind. Ask Him to take over your life, submit to His glory, repent your sins, and find salvation through Him.
