“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23 ESV)
The fruits of the Spirit. A gift that comes along with our salvation. It emanates from the changed heart; the heart of flesh that replaced the heart of stone. The fruit of the Spirit gives us assurances of our salvation. It is an important part of the life of a Christian.
Paul writes that there is no law against these fruits. This is obvious to us because they are all good things that promote acts of goodness and faith. So, why can we not do them? Is there someone you dislike so much that one would consider it hate? Do you have peace in your life or is there constant turmoil? When was the last time you showed an act of kindness? How is your patience? Do you have low tolerance levels? Are you angered easily? Do you overeat, drink too much, or oversleep, how about spending too much? Is your self-control under control?
Jesus told the greatest commandment, “37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39.
Have you tried it? Can you be what this scripture tells us to be, to do? We cannot do it, not all the time. So, what do we do?
Well, thankfully God had a plan. That plan was the incarnation of the Son of God. A plan that through the death and resurrection of Jesus we humans would be forgiven our sins past, present, and future. As we cannot go without sinning, we remain forgiven as we work towards living a righteous life for God. We receive the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ and it is expressed in the 5 Solas:
Sola Fide – By Faith Alone
Solus Christus – In Christ Alone
Sola Gratia – By Grace Alone
Sola Scriptura- By Scripture Alone
Soli Deo Gloria – All for the Glory of God Alone
Practice utilizing the fruits of the Spirit. By practice I mean apply them in your daily life while walking the path of Christ. Pray for those areas where you fall short, that God will strengthen you. Reflect Christ to the world and testify to His work in your life.
If you do not know Christ and would like to learn more about the 5 Solas, reach out to us, or email us at inmessiah.lord@gmail.com. Salvation through Christ awaits those who knock on the door.
Grace and Peace!
