Small as a Mustard Seed

“For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20 ESV)

When we are in difficult or confusing times, when we are troubled we are often quick to worry about our troubles instead of having faith in God. We all do it, it is a natural first response. When we calm down, we start to remember the grace of God. God’s grace has given us the gift of faith, not because we deserve it, far from it, but because our faith is given to us as a result of the everlasting goodness of the work of Christ Jesus. It is important to also know that the gifts of grace, mercy, and faith that we have been given are not in exchange for us accomplishing good works. Only God is good. But they are a gift because we have placed our faith in the Lord. Paul wrote, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV)
