Old to New

“Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:30-31 ESV)

As we grow older, two things happen, one, our bodies break down. As we age, we cannot do what we feel we should. These mind and body limitations are the downside of aging. However, secondly, as we age, inside, we grow stronger in Christ, and our sanctification grows. We become more like Christ.

The butterfly is the perfect example. The caterpillar ages, wrapping itself in darkness, dying to the world only to emerge as a beautiful butterfly that flies away. Our spirit is that butterfly that leaves the broken cocoon of a body flying to the Lord.

Christianity is about death. Only through our death in the world and this body are we given the gift of everlasting life.

I was asked about death the other day why a young mother died in a car crash, leaving two young children behind. Why would God allow this? Billy Graham said this is something only God knows and can tell us when we meet Him. Secondly, we cannot comprehend the plan of God. We have no idea why God chose that moment, which is the key. God is sovereign; His will is done for His purpose, not ours. As mere humans, we could never grasp God’s plan but must take heart and have faith, knowing that God is incapable of doing evil. In fact, God takes evil that occurs, imposed by Satan, and uses it for His good.

It takes a substantial bit of faith to be satisfied with that answer. Are you? Are you confident with the mystique of God? Is your faith strong enough to be satisfied in the sovereignty of God? Read the Bible; from Genesis to Revelation, it is revealed in the Word of God that He is ever faithful, trustworthy, never failing, and constant. Even through disobedience, the Lord forgives believers. He is a steadfast loving God that never changes. It is we who must change.
