Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’ (Isaiah 46:9-10 ESV)

God does not make mistakes. God is perfect. I love these three words that describe God because they are big words and command attention, Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent. What they mean in order is all-powerful, all-knowing, and present everywhere all at the same time. This means God does not make mistakes. The writer of Psalm 147 told us “Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.” (Psalm 147:5 ESV). John wrote, “for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.(1 John 3:20 ESV). He knew you before the beginning of time. If that doesn’t bake your noodle, I don’t know what will. Before God formed creation (and He did it in six, not seven days), He knew you. He knows every hair on your head, even the ones you may have lost. Furthermore, because God knew the beginning before the end, you were converted before time began. Meaning you were His elect from the beginning. Your name is in the Book of Life of the Lamb that was slain (Revelation 13:8).

Why am I telling you this? I am telling you this because WE have to understand God does not make mistakes, we make mistakes. Mistakes in our interpretation of the will of God. This is sometimes a hard pill to swallow. When we get that devastating diagnosis from the doctor. God doesn’t make mistakes with your health.  When a child is born with autism or Down’s syndrome. God does not make a mistake with your child. You struggle with same-sex attraction, or you “think” you are supposed to be the opposite gender. God did not make a mistake with your gender.  God does not make mistakes. When we try to change the reality of our situation on our own, we are telling God He has made a mistake.

We make decisions that are contrary to the will of God. The writer of Hebrews wrote, “And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” (Hebrews 4:13) But the more we humans grow in our cognitive abilities, the more we dabble in creation, the human body and other things, if we are not cautious, we distort God’s will. Abort a child because a test tells you they may be born with Down’s syndrome, your telling God he made a mistake. You can’t find a suitable mate, and you have a same-sex attraction, so you try a same-gender relationship. You are telling God He made a mistake. God does not make mistakes; God does not create sin. God may use a sinful decision for His will, but He is incapable of creating sin. In Numbers 23:19 ESV it is written, “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?”

Society has lost focus on God. It has become human-centered, and all matters of sinful pleasures are indulged, the natural order is rebuffed, and anyone who fails to conform becomes an enemy. A follower of Jesus Christ is an enemy, an enemy of the State? We are divisive? We are racists, bigots. If we truly portray those labels then we too have gone astray. Society thinks that if they fail to acknowledge God, He fails to exist. In “The Problem of Pain”, C.S. Lewis wrote. “A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.” Look at the lunacy around you. Look at the lunacy written on the signs, in the laws, in the protests. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8 ESV).

God does not make mistakes, man makes mistakes. Be wise and seek His counsel. The writer of Psalm 16:7 wrote, “I will bless the Lord who has counseled me; Indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.”. Who is the counselor; who is your counselor? Isaiah told us, “For to us a child is born, to us, a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6 ESV). Jesus is your counselor. John Calvin said, God declares God's absolute control of everything, “All events whatsoever are governed by the secret counsel of God.” John Calvin (1509-1564). All of this makes me think of a Psalm I woke the house with one morning loudly proclaiming with a smile on my face, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” (Psalm 20:7 ESV). Blessed be Christ Jesus through whom all things were made. (pssst (whispering)…. Without error)
