Mercy

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” (Lamentations 3:22-24 ESV)

All of us need to understand we are sinners. Even though we may be born again in Christ, we will still fall. The reason is that sin is appealing to our nature. If it were not so, we would not sin. We should all recognize that the doctrine of sinless perfect is a false doctrine.

Because we are sinners, the words of Jeremiah in lamentation are so important. They remind us that God is ever compassionate and loving. The attribute of God I am truly thankful for is His patience. Without God’s patience, I would be hell, and I don’t like heat, so that is a no-go for me.

God is ever faithful. We see this all through the Old and New Testaments. It gives us assurances of our salvation. His mercies are new every day. So, when we sin and repent, we are granted God’s mercy daily.

When we dedicate ourselves to the Lord, we recognize Christ is all lovely; He is the center of our life. As Paul said, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. So, like Jeremiah, who witnessed the downfall of Judah and Israel despite his words from God, we also wait on the mercies of the Lord. Like Jeremiah, we know we are protected and cared for by the Lord.

Take heart as we live in this world. Know that the Lord forgives your sins of tomorrow. Be devoted to the Lord and wait patiently for Him.
