Like a River

God is sovereign. This means that no matter what you think you are going to do God’s will, will be done. The writer of Psalm 21 tells us, “The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever he will. Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart.” Everyone should read Psalm 21 frequently. This Psalm Reminds us of the sovereignty of God. Webster’s dictionary gives two definitions that best fit God: 1. freedom from external control, and 2. Autonomy, controlling influence.

Nothing influences God; nothing controls God.

God knows

I tell you this because you may be planning an experience of a lifetime and your plans are all set in stone. If this experience is not God’s will, the stones will be crushed, and the experience you expect will never occur. God knows what is best for us. While we have freedom of choice, God lets us choose. When our choices do not follow God’s will, He will either let us experience the negative result of our choice, or He will not allow our choice to come to fruition. If it is a negative result, you will learn something from this negative result. Paul wrote, “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.” (Romans 3:8 ESV). This works for prayer as well. When our prayers are consistent with God’s will, God will grant them. When our prayers are contrary to God’s will, good luck. God does not create sin, and in His will, it will be done.

Focus on the Center

Center Christ in your life. Work hard to be a good servant of the Lord. Live life according to His will, and remember, God, is sovereign.

“I form light and create darkness; I make well-being and create calamity; I am the Lord, who does all these things. “Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation and righteousness may bear fruit; let the earth cause them both to sprout; I the Lord have created it.” Woe to him who strives with him who formed him a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’? (Isaiah 45:7-9 ESV). Please do not question God, trust that He knows what is best for you!
