“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Heb. 13:8 ESV)

As I get older, I’m not impressed by the latest and greatest “new” thing that comes along. I don’t even like it when my computer updates to give me all the fixes and patches for my operating system, and of course, the “New Look and Feel,” well, my old look and feel works just fine. As I get older, it seems like more and more things are changing around me. Do you ever feel this way? I bet you do as well.

Our countries’ morals are changing, and sometimes I feel like this is not the world I grew up in, and I’d be right. I have found that morality seems to change for the worse. I can’t remember when we as a country started to change our morals to better align with God’s Word. It seems like the evil one, generation by generation, is dragging our civilization further and further away from God.

What was clearly wrong just a couple of years ago now seems to be completely acceptable. We have men dressed up as women reading to (or is it grooming) our children in public libraries that use our tax dollars to provide this activity. What has happened to this world that we are living in? I think we all know the answer to this, don’t we? The evil one is aggressively attacking our country’s, and even more our Christian community’s, sense of right and wrong. The evil one never rests; it seems that he has one goal: to separate people, and especially God’s people, from God’s Word.

In this letter to the first-century Hebrews, we find a message of comfort that has been giving Christians hope for two thousand years: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”  You see, the first-century Christians asked the same questions that we ask today, “Can our society get any worse?” Unfortunately, the answer is “Yes”! However, the good news is that even though the evil one is stepping up his attack on our morals and our sense of right and wrong, we can be sure of one thing: Jesus never changes! The truth of salvation by grace remains unchanged; the fact that we are beloved by God remains unchanged. The truth that we have a High Priest who intercedes for us never changes. That we can confidently approach the throne of Grace because Jesus is our mediator, and God will give us mercy and grace when we need it. As a matter of fact, all the truths that are presented in this Letter to the Hebrews never change.

God swore with an oath that Jesus would be our High Priest forever. God does not lie, nor does He change His mind. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

So, as I see our world “spinning out of control”, at least that’s how it appears from my perspective, I can be assured that it is not. God is still on the throne; Jesus is still sitting at His right hand. Things are in control, and I can rest assured that our Jesus never changes, His love endures forever, and we are His and He is ours.

Believer, when the rate of things changing starts to get to you, do what I do, look to God’s Word and remember “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

"Living in Grace is not about what I can do, but about what Jesus has already done!"
