“Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe. 11 As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “I know what a beautiful woman you are. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.” Genesis 12:10-13 ESV)

Abraham, the father of a nation, was an inpatient liar who doubted God. Yes, Abraham feared God, but he feared many things, like his mortality. In Genesis 12, Abraham, fearing for his life, had his wife pose as his sister, who was taken by Pharoah as his wife. This is not the husband you want to be.

When God first spoke to Abram in a vision, Abram believed the Lord when He told Abram his offspring would be like the stars. But both Abram and Sarai were impatient. They both doubted God and took matters into their own hands. Sarai gave Abram her mistress, and Abram took her as a wife, and she bore him a child. This was not a child promised by God. This was the result of human doubt and impatience with the Lord.

When told he would be the father of a nation, Abraham doubted God. God appeared again to Abram as three men came to him. When the Lord spoke of Abraham and Sarah having children, Abraham and Sarah laughed at God because of their age. Yet Isaac was born of Sarah and Abraham.

Do you trust God? When God moves in your life, do you ignore Him? When your prayers are not immediately answered, do you make assumptions? Do you try and make things happen on your own? Are you impatient with God? When you want something, and you pray to God for it, and the opposite happens, do you get angry with God? God has a plan for your life that may not be what you want. Is your faith strong enough to trust God? If you had a health crisis today, or you lost a loved one unexpectedly, would you trust that it is God’s sovereign will at play?

God's guidance has led me to unexpected places, transforming me into a useful servant and continually challenging my faith. Where are you in your journey with God? Is your belief a mere checklist, or have you fully entrusted your faith in the Lord, ready to be transformed?

Like Abraham, we can all come to a true, unwavering faith in God. Have you experienced this transformation? Consider where you stand in your relationship with God. We often focus on the future, but what if there's no tomorrow? If you were to face the Lord today, how would you account for your life? It's a sobering thought, but it's also an opportunity for personal growth. Are you ready to meet God?

Grace and Peace.

Part of trusting God is telling others. It’s being public about it. Here are some more excerpts from the Psalms in which the psalmist makes it clear to the people around him that he’s put in all his chips on God. Psalm 25:1-2 says,In you, Lord my God, I put my trust. I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. Psalm 31:14-15 says, “But I trust in you, Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me. In Psalm 40:3, the psalmist declares, He put a new song in my mouth, a…
