I Will

“In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins and rebuild it as in the days of old, that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations who are called by my name,” declares the Lord who does this.

I read the entire Bible at least once a year, sometimes twice. Every time I do, I find another place that reflects Christ. He was no megalomaniac; the Old Testament is about Him.

Here, we read the writings of the lesser prophet Amos. Amos had a vision from God, and he heard that God would raise up the house of David that had fallen, and the possession of Edom would be His. Edom was located partially in what is now Israel and partially in Jordan. It was called Transjordan. The house of David is the Davidic line of King David. We know through the genealogies that Jesus comes from the line of David. God did raise up the house of David when Christ rose from the dead in bodily form. Christ rules over Edom and “all the nations who are called by His name.”

We also see this reflection in 2 Samuel 7:12-13 where Nathan prophesied to King David. Nathan said, “When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.”

The Old Testament is about Christ. We read the Bible like we read our yearbooks; we look for ourselves. The Bible isn’t about you. It is about Christ. Seek Him in the Word of God and it will change how you the Bible forever.
