Do You Know the Truth?

What is Truth?

We live in a world today where truth has suddenly become subjective. What’s true for you is true simply because you say it is, and no one can tell you otherwise. If you try, you may get labeled as being “intolerant”. What’s even worse is that we base our “truth” on our feelings rather than on actual facts. As a result, we’re not only lying to ourselves, but possibly leading others down a path filled with falsehoods. Those falsehoods may provide temporary comfort, but they actually lead to eternally-dire consequences.

Before His Very Eyes

The Gospel of John tells us that after Jesus was falsely arrested by the religious leaders, He was brought before Pontius Pilate, the governor of Judea, to answer to the charges against Him. When Pilate asked Jesus if He was a king, Jesus replied:

“You say that I am a king. For this purpose, I was born and for this purpose, I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” (John 18:37-38, ESV).

Pilate wasn’t truly asking a question when he said those words to the Lord. He was declaring that truth is in the eye of the beholder. Jesus said in John 14:6 (ESV), that “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Think about it: Pilate had the “Truth” standing right in front of him, and he purposed in his heart to reject it.

Will you make the same dreadful mistake as Pilate? Will you refuse to allow Jesus into your heart? Here are the facts: Jesus was crucified, and died for your sins and mine. He was buried, and was resurrected from the dead three days later. He now sits at the right hand of the Father, interceding for both you and I. The best part about it? Salvation is free to all those who would just believe. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ today, and you will be saved from the judgement to come. And that’s the truth.
