“And it shall come to pass in that day, declares the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and I will burst your bonds, and foreigners shall no more make a servant of him.But they shall serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.” (Jeremiah 30:8-9 ESV)

This passage from Jeremiah 30 is a reminder that God keeps His promises. God is not a liar; He is all righteous, so when God said He would do something, His will would be completed both then, now, and in the future.

Jeremiah spoke these words so that Israel would know that God would restore them. The day of the Lord Jeremiah spoke of was the deliverance of Israel from the bondage of Babylon. Amos spoke of the day of the Lord in 5:18 when He wrote, “Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord! Why would you have the day of the Lord? It is darkness, and not light.” Amos also wrote, “And on that day,” declares the Lord God, “I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight.” (8:9) Can you see the reflection of Christ in the words of Amos?

Israel had to learn that the Day of the Lord would bring judgment. However, on the far side of the judgment Jeremiah and Amos spoke of was the restoration of the Davidic line.

So, many times in biblical history, Satan’s attempts to eradicate the line of David came close but failed. From Bethlehem and the murder of the innocent baby boys by Herod, to the line hanging on by a thread when only Joash remained from the line of David, and after Athaliah was killed, Joash was crowned King (2 Kings 11:1), God's unwavering faithfulness to Israel despite their rebellion is a testament to His love and commitment.

In keeping the line of David intact, God continued the line through Joseph and Mary, both of whom were from the line of David. Jesus told us that all of the scripture was about Him when He chastised the Pharisees, saying, Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope. For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?” (John 5:46).

Many times, in the Scriptures, we read the Words of Christ on this truth. We also see this in the Gospel of Luke, which records Jesus speaking to His disciples. Luke wrote, “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.” (Luke 24:27) This is the plan of God revealed in Scripture, a divine roadmap that enlightens us about His purpose and His Son, Jesus Christ.

As a Christian, the intertwining of Scripture from beginning to end allows us to see the plan of God unfold before us. Scripture confirms Scripture, it reveals truth, and to those enabled by the Holy Spirit, the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Because of this, we have assurance in the Word of God, breathed by God, inerrant, factual, historical, and the blueprints for serving our Lord God. But most importantly, it offers us the hope of eternal life. Eternal life lives in the Word of God. It is available to all who place their faith in the risen Son of God, Christ Jesus.

This promise of eternal life should fill us with hope and encouragement, knowing that our faith in Christ secures our future. Do you know Him? Choose life, seek Christ.

Grace and Peace.
