“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12 ESV)
Trials are not easy, and we, as Christians, experience many. While physical persecution resulting in death happens infrequently in the US, in other countries, being a Christian can be a death sentence. As Christians, we should not think life will be a cakewalk. Christ Himself told us, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Matt 16:24 ESV). Christ is telling us we must suffer.
We will all suffer in our trials if it is a health issue, finances, children, family, or work. We must be okay with this fact. Our trials should bring us closer to God. Trials should move us to trust deeply in God to provide for us. We should hold on to God’s love to lift us to the challenges before us.
James is right. When we accept our trials and weather them, we are blessed. When we withstand the test, we receive a promise God made to all of us. Believe me, if there is one thing our God is, it is trustworthy. When he makes a promise, He keeps it.
Peace and Grace.
