“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12 ESV)

We live in a world under the control of evil, amid spiritual warfare. As you read the Bible, you understand that Jesus warned us about the inevitability of trials in our lives. Everyone’s life is difficult, and as a Christian, you should be prepared for even more troublesome times, especially if you are involved in ministries. But remember, these trials are not unexpected, and you are equipped to face them with faith and resilience.

The enemy pursues those who serve the risen Lord. Those who serve pose a threat to the intentions of the evil one. He wants to lead people away from God, and those who serve God disrupt that plan.

Here is something to think about. Satan knows scripture. In knowing scripture, he must know that he is doomed. He attempted to stop Christ's sacrifice and resurrection, but he failed. Why would he not give up? Because he hates God and everything godly. He seethes over it. It is the same for those sent to hell. Rather than try to repent and ask for forgiveness even though it is too late, they despise God. C.S. Lewis once wrote, “The door to hell is locked from the inside.” While scripture does not tell us this, we know we reap what we sow.

James wrote that we must persevere in times of trouble. The perseverance of the saints is a fundamental doctrine of Calvinism, one that I believe. A Christian cannot help but persevere. The reason is that they have already placed their faith in Jesus Christ. They have assurances of salvation. So, no matter how bad things get, remember, heaven is our reward if we continue to trust in the Lord. This promise of salvation should fill you with hope and encouragement in the midst of trials.

God is sovereign; he designed our existence before time. In the scriptures, we are constantly reminded that God never fails. He fulfills every promise, every prophecy, and every covenant and has done so since creation. Demonic influence has existed, beginning with Satan’s rebellion and expulsion from heaven. But remember, he is still subordinate to God and still limited in power. He, too, is under God’s control. This assurance of God's power should make you feel secure and protected in the face of trials.

Like Job, we must remain faithful to the Lord. Despite Satan's attacks, Job remained true to God. We must remember and trust our assurances of salvation. Glory awaits the blessed saint who remains steadfast in times of trials.

Are you in a time of trial? Is trouble crushing you like the weight of a mountain? Is grief overtaking you like a tidal wave? Is anxiety sucking the air out of your lungs like a vacuum? Do you know Christ?

Our Savior moves mountains, disperses the seas and storms, and controls the air and winds. Call out to Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Tell Him you need Him to be your Savior. Seek Him now. There will come a time when it is too late.

Grace and Peace!
