“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58 ESV)
I am very grateful for Paul’s words. Our service to Christ can sometimes appear fruitless. Paul reminds us it is not. While we might not see the impact our service makes in this world, it is not hidden from God. One of the greatest Christian principles is that there is no separation made, in teaching or promise, between our life now and in heaven. Faith in Christ separates us from this world, even though we remain physically in it.
Being steadfast in all things and unwavering in faith assures us of our future. The recognition of these assurances gives us hope and peace in a world where those things can crumble. While human promises can crumble, the promises of the Lord are permanently etched in stone, immovable and irreversible, providing us with a sense of security and peace.
It is the "sting" of sin that kills us. In dying, Christ “killed” death; He defeated it for us, bringing us victory and hope. The split second this body ceases to function, we are with the Lord alive, not dead. It does not require “super-Christian” faith to see life this way. When you have given your heart to the Lord, you know it to be true, without question.
It is for this reason that we do not seek accolades in this life. We serve out of love and devotion. When we miss worship or service, we somehow feel diminished, yet the Lord knows our hearts and does not view us in that way. We should also feel this way in our earthly work, doing our best in our given vocation. We always strive to demonstrate pride and dedication in our work. Not because we look good to those above us, but because the Lord calls us to do our best in all the things we do. Paul wrote in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.” We do not seek treasures on earth, but in heaven. With Christ at the center of your life, do everything, eating, drinking, or working, to be pleasing to God. (1 Corinthians 10:31).
Do you know Jesus Christ as your Savior? If you do, is He at the center of your life? Come to know the peace and love of God, ask Him to save you from your sins. You will find the assurances of God in your eternal future, knowing Christ saved those who have placed their faith in Him from death and the pit of hell. No matter what you have done in your life, put your faith in Christ, ask to be forgiven of your sins, and follow Him. He is “the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him.” (John 14:6)
This invitation is urgent and important for your eternal salvation. Choose Jesus Christ.
Grace and Peace.
