Be Humble, but Be Bold

“I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I show myself holy through you before their eyes.” — Ezekiel 36:23
Imagine if everyone in the world repented their sins and called on the Lord. I think it would be like heaven on earth. God’s name is being profaned like it is water. It is no wonder God has turned this world over to its sin.
If everyone turned to God, He would be worshiped as He expects, as He designed us to do. All of the horrors we see every day would be gone. But we know this could never happen. We know this because John wrote Revelation (no, there are no “s” at the end) that many will perish in the fires of hell. Whenever this kind of thought pops into my head, I remember the promises of God. This one is always there. If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
All it takes is to turn from sin and call out His name. He hears us. The Spirit guides us, and Jesus mediates and turns our failures into forgiven ones. Every day we will fail, but that is okay. God knows we are flawed. That’s why He sent Christ. That we may be rejoined to Him as intended.
My heart breaks to think of the many who will never know Christ. We never know who God has elected to be His own, so we must approach all persons revealing the Gospel to them. If the Spirit has enabled them, they will understand the Gospel’s saving power, mercy, and grace.
Often at night, I lie awake and whisper to God that I am grateful I had another day to serve Him. I also whisper how sorry I am for losing so many days in sin, separated from Him. It is time wasted that I can never get back. Usually, the thought also pops into my head that I may have wasted many days, but I have an eternity to make up for it.
Spread the Gospel in the grocery line; spread it while you’re getting gas, and in the pharmacy, spread the Gospel. If you want to see something special, the next time you are out at dinner, tell your server you are about to pray over your meal and ask them if there is anything you can pray for them. Even if it is rejected, the surprise and boldness of your faith may be just the thing that makes them ask, “Who is this Jesus?”
Peace and Grace.
