Be Crushed

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26 ESV)

Is there something about God that crushes your heart? Is there something that chokes you up to the point of tears? Is there something that truly makes you realize the depth of God’s love for you?

This verse is used in the song “The Blessing” by Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes. While I have issues with their church, I do not have issues with this song. It is one of those things that the Spirit uses to overcome my soul to the point of tears.

I would like you to basically “count your blessings.” Think about all the things God has done for you. I pray the list is long. Think about those things and what constitutes them. Is it family, a child, a church, a friend, your relationship with God, or your salvation? Then worship God for that blessing. I mean, truly worship with all your emotions and praise Him for what He has given you. Is there something that crushes your heart?

Our purpose on this earth is to worship and glorify God. God is most glorified when we are most satisfied in Him (thank you, John Piper). If we have something God has done in our life that turns us to tears, it is the thing that most glorifies God. For me, it is my salvation. When I read Numbers 6 or hear that song, I am forced to acknowledge my past, fall before an all-holy God, and worship Him for my salvation.

Is there something that crushes you? Worship him with joy, tears, and passion, and allow your heart to be crushed. In doing so, you will give God the one thing he desires, to be glorified. No matter how emotional it is, your satisfaction in God is the greatest form of worship you can display.
