“All Sins shall be forgiven the sons of men.”

“Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”  (Mark 3:28-29 ESV)

Unfortunately, some think that they have done such horrible things that God could never forgive them. I do hope that you are not one of those poor souls. Some that I’ve spoken to over the years have said, “But you don’t know what I’ve done!” And of course they are correct, I don’t, and honestly, I don’t want to know.

Every single person who has ever drawn a breath has sinned. Not only is that what Scripture teaches (Rom. 3:23-24) “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,”), but each of us knows it’s true.

I have never met someone who seriously said they were sinless; we all know that God’s holiness is far above our ability ever to obtain on our own. It’s also true that everyone, to one degree or another, realizes that because of their sins, God cannot allow them into His presence. Here is where the confusion starts. They think they have done such horrible things that God could never forgive them.

What a terrible burden to bear, thinking that because of the way you have chosen to live your life, there is no possible way for God ever to forgive you. This would be a burden too great to bear, and that burden would cause despair, which leads them further and further away from God.

However, today’s passage gives us the good news about sin and how it can be forgiven. Today’s passage shows us that there is no sin so grievous (please hear me, NO SIN, even the ones you don’t want to talk about) that God will not forgive except for the sin of “blasphemes against the Holy Spirit”, which cannot be committed since Jesus's ascension to heaven. Jesus clearly states that “all sins will be forgiven”. Now this isn’t something that will happen automatically. God is a Holy and righteous God, and we know that Romans 6:23 states, “For the wages of sin are death”.

The Bible is very clear in teaching that there is only one way to the Father: through the Son, Jesus Christ. Now this brings up a critical question, doesn’t it? If the payment for my sins is death (separation from God the Father for all of eternity), but Jesus says that “all sins will be forgiven”, how can this happen?

The English word “but” is very powerful in Scripture; it is used to show a contrast between two things, and it is a critical part of Rom. 6:23. We already seen the first half of this verse, “For the wages of sin is death” however the rest of the verse starts with “but” which shows that there is hope for forgiveness.

We as sinners are not destined to an eternity without God. God has made a way for our sins to be forgiven. Look at the last half of Rom. 6:23, “but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

You see, there is hope; there is complete forgiveness for our sins. God has made a way for all our sins to be forgiven. God has given us Jesus, who died once on the cross as complete and final payment for all of our sins. Yes, for all of your sins, but also for all of my sins, and for all of the sins of the whole world.

You see, Jesus was given as a sacrifice to pay for our sins. The payment for our sins isn’t something that we can earn or deserve by doing good things to try to make up for the sins that we have committed. No, there is only one way our sins can be forgiven: we must change our minds about how we can have eternal life (that we can’t earn it) and believe that Jesus is the only way we can have forgiveness.  Please take a moment and notice that salvation is a gift from God; it is not something that you can earn.

So, in Mark 3:28, when Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter…” He meant every word, because He can provide that forgiveness.

Friend, please stop thinking that your sins are beyond forgiveness; they aren’t. The sacrifice of Jesus was sufficient to satisfy God the Father. Jesus paid it all; there is nothing left for you to pay for. BUT, the gift of forgiveness is something that you must receive for yourself.

Please don’t wait, please don’t listen to the lies the evil one has been telling you, please accept the gift that Jesus offers and have all of your sins forgiven for eternity.
