“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12 ESV)

It is Autumn. The days are getting shorter; the darkness gets longer. As we look around us, we will start to see nature shed its summer skin. Everything starts to get gray and monochromatic. Many people dread this time of year; many suffer from winter depression. In the dark of the winter, Christ is the light. Look to the light sent by God. Christ wipes away all fear, all anxiety, and all depression. Christ is the true light of God.

I tell you, look around you; life still goes on. Winter is a reminder of the death and resurrection of Christ. When we look at the trees, they look like they are dead. Grass turns brown, and the birds we see every day, so colorful, have now left, only to be replaced by those of gray, white, and black. Yet there is no death.

In Jesus, death is erased. In the Spring, like the resurrection, everything comes to life; colors return, as do the colorful birds and animals. Jesus is the resurrection. Through faith in Christ, we have passed from death to life. Like the flowers of the Spring, we are reborn in the resurrection no longer to die but to be raised eternally.

Look to Him and be reborn in Spirit. Peace.
