The Old Testament is full of the promises of God that point to Jesus as the Messiah, and Jesus is in every book of the Old Testament. The books of the OT may not be about him, a metaphor, or an analogy, but they point to him in some fashion.

The New Testament is the fulfillment of God's promises made in the OT by Jesus. In the New Testament, Jesus is called many things. The Pharisees and Sadducees called him a liar, a blasphemer, a worker of the devil, and so on. But Jesus called himself many things, such as the way, the truth, and the life. My favorite is the one in the Gospel of John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Many people never understand that Jesus is the Word. Jesus was in the beginning, before time, with God and the Holy Spirit. Jesus was with God and is God.

Who is that Guy

It is lovely to see the expression on someone's face when they "get" who Jesus is in scripture. Therefore, I always recommend new believers start reading the Bible with John's gospel first. Jesus is the Lamb of God, He is the Light, He is the resurrection, and Jesus is all these things.

Many people from different denominations have prayed ritual prayers, never understanding who Jesus is in those prayers until the Spirit opens their eyes in scripture. The result is a deeper understanding of who Jesus is. When we think about the sacrificial system and the slaughtering of the Passover lamb, we understand that Jesus replaced that system and is our sacrificial lamb who paid for the sin of the entire world forever.

Jesus is also our High Priest and mediator with God, and he is our wonderful counselor. We need not pray to anyone other than Him. We know this because He told us in Matthew 7:7, "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!"

The Works of the Spirit

One of the most rewarding things to participate in is the eye-opening experience of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Spirit, enabling the person to hear the truth. Witnessing the Holy Spirit's workings is humbling, especially when you acknowledge that you did nothing, and God worked through you to reach that person then.

Please spread the gospel as often as you have the opportunity. Yes, frequently, it will be rejected, but don't be discouraged. There will be that time when the Spirit enables that person, and you become a conduit for God. You will be forever grateful that God used you for His work.

The whole purpose of this blog is to spread the gospel. Please help us to get the Word out to the nations. You never know who the Spirit will enable. And remember, the gospel is just not for the lost; the gospel is for Christians! The gospel is for Christians every day. Blessings!!
